LaserWriter II by Tamara Shopsin

read: 9.06-11.06

one of my favorite things about reading is that some stories can fulfill my strange desire to follow people for a little while and observe what they're up to on the daily (my true life calling is to be one of the angels in the opening of wings of desire btw). this book was perfect for all that. a frenetic sequence of snapshots inside a new york mac repair shop in the 90s, complete with quirky characters, the mundanities of starting a new job, and some fun tech history. very happily surprised by the talking printer components (happy pride month to hook and gear!). thank you to wichitalk for recommending this to me, it was definitely my jam <3

i have a soft spot for books about space and humanity and hope... this one covers all three with such a lyrical and yet familiar style. the image of earth not looking inhabited during the day is so calming to me for some reason. would recommend this to an alien trying to understand what it's like to be human.

i do love a time loop story!! did not expect how gentle and mundane this would be. gorgeous writing. i think i'll need to be in a specifc mood to continue the series though, maybe wait for the colder months...

The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley

read: 22.02-14.03

the mystery was a bit predictable but i couldn't help but be charmed by flavia's personality and her little world.

kinda wish i read this when i was younger, i would have loved it in middle school and maybe i would have liked chemistry more because of it.
