  • hanging out with m in late october
  • donating blood, six months have passed since last time woah
  • watching the new benoit blanc mystery

september field notes

september came and went so quickly! it’s finally getting colder... here are some favorites:

practical magic

best way to kick off fall season! rewatching this movie is like drinking a warm cup of tea... the story is really not as important as the vibes, i want to live in that house so baaad

absolute martian…

my cousin said this comic seemed like my thing and he was so right! love an alien possession that is not necessarily malicious (venom.....). the use of color and space is incredible!

chocolate cake

this one always hits. want to bake another one just writing about it. such a quick recipe, perfect to eat alongside a cup of coffee.

honorable mentions: the stupidest scavenger hunt - tryhards (feat. tom scott); new season of taskmaster!!; the summer i turned pretty and its big timeless house (don’t plan on watching the show but this was interesting!).

mundane updates

  • trainride to venice on the first track so it felt like we were on the water
  • baked ‘pangoccioli’ (chocolate chip sweet rolls)
  • finally moved back to my attic bedroom now that it’s not a billion degrees anymore

hobonichi week(s)!

happy hobonichi 2026 launch week to those who celebrate! hope everyone got the techo of their dreams... thought i’d share some notes on the planners i’ve used in the past and write down some journaling goals for the rest of the year/2026.

i’ve been using hobonichi for two years now (!), ever since moleskine stopped making snoopy themed agendas and i needed something both cute and functional to use as a daily journal. this coincided with me finding megan rhiannon’s channel, where i was introduced to the hobonichi brand (and her amazing journal spreads/illustrations). though i love seeing what people do with their A5s and cousins, i know i could never keep up with that much blank space (and the cost...), so i’ve been sticking to the weeks pretty happily.

my hobonichi weeks 2024/2025/2026

in 2024 i got Tomitaro Makino: Shihai Sumire, i decorated some pages but mostly just wrote my daily entries and when i needed more space i used the right page.

some rare decorated pages

in 2025 i’ve been using MOTHER: Smiles & Tears, which i love! though i must confess i’ve never finished the game because i’m a terrible gamer lol. same as last year, i’ve been journaling pretty consistently on this one, with some blank days when i was too tired to write.

for 2026 i ordered Colors: Sky Mist, none of the decorated ones really spoke to me this year except the moomin collaboration, which is of course the only one not sold on the italian shop, sigh... but! i have some moomin stickers i’ve been waiting to use so i’ll just make my own hehe.

2026 journaling goals

  • reread weekly entries
  • if the right page is blank, do a journal prompt
  • decorate more: use stickers and draw!!

august field notes

felt like i mostly spent the month of august watering plants, crashing out under the unbearable loneliness of summer, playing cards with friends and working from home (trains’ fault). legume soup also had an important role. aand i finally started reading again yippee!! here’s some favorite august-things:

convenience st...

Convenience Store Woman
so glad i finally read this! it got me over a reading slump that’s been going on for a while now, it was exactly what i needed: quick, weird, funny with a bittersweet aftertaste.

supernatural s01

Supernatural
me and c have tentatively started a supernatural rewatch and it’s been great actually. dean is exactly my age in season 1 which is terrible. the early season shot-on-film aesthetic is immaculate. i’m also listening to the mystery spotcast after watching the episodes, love the hosts!

dutch blitz

Dutch Blitz
this card game is so addictive, highly recommend if your circle is small (4 player max.) but ya’ll are crazy (ready to play this for many consecutive hours and fight about rule breaking), there’s an app if you want to try it, but you can only play against bots unfortunately..

honorable mentions: rachel maksy video where she creates a life-size gollum for a cosplay; the mere mention of supernatural is enough to make me want to read destiel fics again, which is how i found this lovely outsider pov fic by sobsicles; also been really into my pretentious supernatural playlist.

mundane updates

  • nothing quite like rainstorms after weeks of unbearable hot weather
  • read half of a book going to work and the other half on the way back
  • new computer & phone soon yes yes

july field notes

july was weird... my mood was all over the place all month until one day (to my immense relief) i just woke up and was back to my ‘neutral’ state, which is being pretty chill and mundanity enjoying. i have many ideas on what the culprit could be for my bad mood but the fact that it just fixed itself with no work on my part is a mystery to me. but we take all the wins we can get. so my july favorites are mostly things i used to cope with the general weirdness, enjoy!

superman (2025)

Superman lying down in the snow being jumped by the dog Krypto.
wrote a lil review here, such a sweet movie!! felt like watching a morning cartoon, saw it with f at the cinema, good times!

psych rewatch

Shawn and Gus from the show Psych sitting down handcuffed to a car.
rewatching random psych episodes is thee Mood indicator for me. i used to it all the time while writing my dissertation (blegh). watching shawn and gus commit to the bit to never-before-seen degrees of silliness is like watching baby sensory videos. to me.

headlights

Headlights by Alex G LP.
alex g’s guitar and nostalgic vibes comforted me through many-a train ride/walking sessions. nothing quite like hearing afterlife’s ‘eeeeee’ for the first time. or listening to oranges while it’s raining.

honorable mentions: playing this random ass car game on discord with friends (i’m really bad at it btw); this tumblr text post; wet leg’s tiny desk concert.

mundane updates

  • the weather has been nice!! not too hot, summer rainstorms…
  • made a delicious legume soup after a long rainy day
  • on the 31st the moon looked just like an orange slice from my window

june field notes

june felt like a blur honestly, don’t remember much, possibly because i’ve not been writing in my journal aagh, anyway, some favorites!

signs (2002)

signs movie poster
full review here, watched it in the perfect conditions (home alone at night, windows open with countryside sounds all around me, felt like aliens would arrive at any moment)

sherlock puzzle

the world of sherlock holmes jigsaw puzzle
love doing jigsaw puzzles in the summer!! this one had sooo many buildings and little details, made me want to reread some conan doyle...

this bagel

salmon and guacamole bagel
tried a new bagel place with cat and it was delicious, took some notes for next time i bake them hehe

honorable mentions: new season of phineas and ferb!; afterlife by alex g; the movie josie and the pussycats (2001); katya’s criterion closet picks.

mundane updates

  • person on the train next to me was reading a moomin book
  • biked around to plant flowers for the pikmins
  • thursday piadina lunches

mission: impossible: ranked: badly

finally realized i have total freedom to write whatever on my blog because it’s mine ?? hello ?? so with this newfound freedom it’s obviously time to rank some silly spy movies! yay!! warning for major m:i spoilers + unreliable information bc i forgor.

btw if you’ve never watched a mission impossible movie, it’s fine, you’re fine! what’s great about them is that you can start whenever and if you get a little confused about ethan hunt’s romantic life, it’s ok! i think he is too! so just choose one based on vibes and you have a relaxing action movie night covered.

1. ghost protocol

this is exactly want i want, nay, what i expect from a spy action movie!! you get to follow an insane divorced man who is cursed to live in the absolute present, his only way out is literally through prisons, windows, cars etc. etc. also his annoying friends are there.

2. rogue nation

give it up for clarinet gun!! also for ethan’s post-drowning fugue state. and that tender moment between him and benji at the end. aaand rebecca ferguson!! + the turandot motive in the theme!! nice!!

3. fallout

SO i know this is a fan favorite and i know i missed on the theatrical experience (argh!) but this one felt like it was missing something ? it might be the color grading, everything is so gray.. but henry cavill bathroom scene + helicopter battle are 10/10 of course

4. dead reckoning

despite watching this at the cinema i really can’t remember much except the train falling scene and the big jump which was spoiled right before the movie as a behind the scenes/trailer for some reason ?? but i gave it 4 stars back then so i’m really trusting past em here. also paris is in this!! yay!!

5. m:i

this feels low for the first movie but it’s just how i feel, you know? i was so sad when his whole team died in the first 10 minutes. chekov’s restaurant aquarium was also great. and noc list is a fun thing to say i guess.

6. final reckoning

beautiful gay people submarine... take me there.... also good on the franchise for not killing its main character in the last movie. benji & paris best characters!! bit long tho innit

7. m:i:3

i’m going to be so real right now and say that i’ve watched this once when i was like 14 and the only thing i remember is his wife almost dying (does this movie even show the fake out? i honestly do not recall and i kinda don’t care). peace and love!!

8. m:i:2

similar to the m:i3 situation, but this time i only remember the rock climbing scene and hating his haircut lmao.

may field notes

had some half-plan to write a blog post about something else before the end of the month but life got in the way as it does, so here’s some may favorites!

orbital

Orbital by Samantha Harvey
this book literally pulled me out of earth into outer space and everything quieted down for a bit…

taskmaster s19

Taskmaster
had never watched a taskmaster series as it comes out, the cast is so chaotic this year i love itt. highly recommend if you like silly game shows + it’s free on youtube!!

orociok

Orociok cookie
ode to the humble two-biscuit orociok packet usually eaten by school children as a snack (and also by me this month, as a little treat)

honorable mentions: the songs sulky baby by yeule and opr by gesaffelstein; this video where dan and phil recount their (not actual) near death experience on vacation; started using raindrop.io to organize my bookmarks and it’s great.

mundane updates

  • read on the train and the morning light was perfect
  • been having a second breakfast outside when i can
  • drew a little after months of no art

Posted on 31st May at 7:44 PM

april field notes

some things i loved this month!

riddle of fire

riddle of fire
best movie if you need a pick-me-up from the horrors. gorgeous colors… magical realism!! the children are so sweet and the soundtrack is perfect

hannibal s03

will graham saying 'this soup isn't very good'
rewatched dolce and digestivo back to back with c, perfect episodes of television, if i saw you every day forever, will, i would remeber this timebeen staring at afterimages of you in places you haven’t been in years…

pikmin bloom

sandwhich yellow pikmin
finally had enough space on my phone to redownload the app! i missed taking care of my pikmins and it’s a great incentive to walk more yippee

honorable mentions: reuven evelyn’s february field notes (which inspired the title of this post); basement jaxx & 100 gecs - where’s my head at remix; heartsl0b’s pencil drawings; the destiel fic russian twist by briston.

mundane updates

  • played tennis outside!
  • so many windy days…
  • train movies (when you watch a movie and you’re on a train)

building a digital hedge maze

haven’t updated the site in a while because i’ve been working on a huge project and it will take at least a month for it to be complete enough to have it up and running. it’s a sort of commonplace book/zettelkasten/personal wiki, a digital garden if you will, and it’s based on what i use on obsidian (which is also incomplete agh!) + my tumblr tag system, so i have a lot of information to go through and collect and read etc. etc., which to be fair are all activities i love doing, i’m just impatient.

i’ve been listening to i bet on losing dogs by mitski on loop and my mind right now is just a mix of my baby my baby you’re my baby, janky html/css code and daredevil (seriously thinking about making a matt murdock shrine btw)… so i cannot for the life of me think of anything else to write here, enjoy some mundane moments!

mundane updates

  • had a nice walk in the sun after so many cloudy days
  • saw time change from 2 am to 3 am (nothing is real!)
  • rewatched mizumono with c for the fourth time… when will the ending change…

what even is a blog?

keep forgetting i have a blog now, i’m just not used to it! i’ve been journaling on and off since i was in elementary school but never on the internet because i’m shy on every plane of existence, so this is a sort of exercise to give myself backbone, which is actually one of my new years’ resolutions (the other one is to bake new recipes btw).

anyway, in webdev news i made an art depot page to collect my favorite art pieces! i love calling it a «depot» because it reminds me of one of the coolest places i’ve ever visited – the depot boijmans van beuningen in rotterdam – where you get to see how a museum collection is stored & some interesting exhibitions. all the pieces are organized by material (bc of humidy reasons), except the paintings which are all stored together in chronological order. there is also a floor where you can see art restorers at work!! (can you tell i’m an avid baumgartner restoration watcher lmao)

painting storage wideshot
here’s a photo of the painting storage!
painting storage detail

mundane updates

  • prepared package for my oldest penpal, posting it tomorrow!
  • continued studying sql, want to put notes on the site soon
  • spring has officially arrived but my nose is still always cold

Posted on 20th March at 10:12 PM

first post

hello hello! first captain’s log! i’m still deciding what this blog will be like, but for now i’m just glad to a have a space to yap about the website instead of filling up my precious hobonichi weeks entries with html ramblings.

this mac os 8 inspired layout is based on what has been my tumblr theme for many years now, it feels nostalgic even though i’ve never used it on an actual computer. i can’t help but feel like it’s missing some decorations though, so that’s on the to-do list!
also need to sort out the icons situation (the tumblr theme works with a single image and i want to understand how to change the icons individually), will this actually make me learn css instead of fumbling around like usual? probably not to be honest.

mundane updates

  • saw boston marriage at the local theater and it was great!! literally two chaotic lesbians being messy for 90 minutes, highly recommend
  • baked bagels for the first time! recipe here
  • trees are literally blossoming… wow…
